Climate & Energy

The wave of recent storms and flooding in Greenpoint and Williamsburg should be an alarming signal to everyone that we can not sit idly on enacting measures to protect our community from climate change. I’ve worked at the firehouse during our most recent storms responding to countless emergencies and have seen first-hand the sheer devastation and danger these now all-too-common events inflict upon our community. The good news is there are actions we can take by improving disaster protection and investing in the future that is renewable energy while creating thousands of well-paying union jobs in the process.

AS YOUR ASSEMBLYMEMBER, I WILL FIGHT TO:

  • Halt the expansion of new, unneeded fossil fuel pipelines and infrastructure.

  • Make our public power systems public-owned and operated to bring down energy costs for New Yorkers while reducing inefficiencies and outages caused by ConEd and National Grid.

  • Phase out all fossil fuel energy production in New York State and rapidly transition to renewable energy

  • Encourage and incentivize green roof construction that collects excess rainwater and prevents flooding during major storms

  • Divest public pension funds from fossil-fuel companies

  • Expand the New York Power Authority which already generates some of the lowest-cost energy of any system in the nation while incurring no state debt

  • Invest in the latest, proven engineering solutions for combating flooding caused by storm surges

  • Hold the Governor and State to their commitment in building the largest offshore wind farm in the nation

  • Ensure that new energy jobs provide a living wage, benefits, and safe conditions while fighting for unionization throughout the industry
