Housing

Blue collar and white collar New Yorkers alike are frustrated and fed up with the increasing impossibility of ever owning their own home in this city and the growing housing shortage only makes it harder. We need to build housing to meet the demands of our growing population and work toward increasing homeownership rates among working class New Yorkers.

AS YOUR ASSEMBLYMEMBER, I WILL FIGHT TO:

  • Focus tax subsidies on programs that create affordable housing for purchase. We need to revisit past successes such as Mitchell-Lama that provided 100,000 apartment units that working and middle class people own today.

  • Provide fair property tax reforms for low and middle-class homeowners. No one should be priced out of their family home due to overinflated property value assessments.

  • Give tenants the right of first refusal to buy out their landlord if their building goes up for sale.

  • Eliminate tax abatements such as 485-a and 421-a that have given luxury developers millions in tax dollars without providing the affordable housing promised by developers.

  • Apply taxes on long-term vacancies of storefronts. Vacant storefronts are a blight on our neighborhoods and deter economic growth and quality of life.
